Self-publishing used to have many negative connotations, but that is no longer the case, and it is now viewed as a respectable and affordable way for authors to showcase their work.

Self-publishing is ideal for family and local histories, memoirs, children’s and educational books, poetry and short stories, novels, anthologies, self-help manuals and specialised books for target audiences.

The Self-Publishing Process

Once you’ve edited, proofed, checked and completed your manuscript, you’re ready to self-publish, and Dragonwick will guide you through the process from concept to print.

The text section will be prepared from your manuscript and individually designed to your specifications. It can be produced in a range of sizes, with photographs, illustrations or scans incorporated, where applicable, at no extra charge.

The cover is very important and is created to suit the book’s subject matter and your preferences, either using supplied illustrations or from material sourced by Dragonwick. To generate sales, it should be eye-catching and relating to the subject matter. Typically, potential purchasers look at the spine, front cover and then the back cover, where they may only spend a couple of minutes before making a decision to buy. The information on the back of the book is a significant marketing tool, so you need to choose every word carefully.

The manuscript is edited for consistency, punctuation and spelling. The text section and cover are then set up in page form for proofing, including any photographs or graphics. It is important you take time to check very carefully at this stage, and ensure that your requested alterations are made.

When the draft copy has been finalised to your satisfaction, Dragonwick will organise the digital or offset printing of your book, taking all the worry out of your hands. However, if you wish to handle the printing yourself, we can supply print files on CD.

Dragonwick is not a commercial publishing house and does not sell, promote or distribute your books. However, if you have faith in your product, aim for high sales and put in the necessary time, you will be successful.
